Modeselektor est un duo de compositeurs Allemands de musique éléctronique : Gernot Bronsert et Sebastian Szary. Ils font leurs débuts en 1997 mais ne sortent leur premier EP qu’en 2002 (In Loving Memory, chez le label Bpitch Control), et leur premier véritable album Hello Mom! trois ans plus tard, en 2005. En 2007 sort leur second album : Happy Birthday, , et le troisième Monkeytown en 2011.

On a en effet souvent trouvé le nom du groupe “modeselektor” dans les récentes interviews de Thom Yorke. Il semblerait qu’il ait eu un coup de foudre musical pour le groupe d’electro allemand.  Il semblerait que Thom Yorke en soit fan depuis le début puisque déjà en 2003, il citait leur nom dans une interview à la télé allemande, comme le raconte le duo :

Dans une interview de 2011, les membres de Modeselektor déclarent qu’ils sont les vecteurs de l’entrée de Thom Yorke dans le Djing, mais aussi que Thom Yorke leur a appris à maîtriser leur procrastination naturelle…

We are the [most] hardcore procrastinators ever. We had a lot of communication with Thom during our procrastination period, when we couldn’t make any music, and so he really helped us out. He’s been doing this twenty-five years. He gave me tips like going on a walk outside, don’t allow yourself to make music for a while, don’t listen to other music, read a book, play with your child.” [/quote]

Le 10 septembre 2007, sortait l’album “Happy Birthday” auquel a participé Thom Yorke sur “The White Flash“, en prêtant sa voix.

En 2011, Thom écrivait à nouveaux deux chansons pour le duo que l’on retrouvait sur l’album “Monkeytown” : Shipwrek et This

Il semblerait même que ce soit Thom qui se soit proposé… Modeselektor a alors assuré quelques premières parties du groupe en Europe en 2008, ou au Japon, et en 2009 à Prague. On a régulièrement aussi vu les membres de Radiohead se promener avec un tee-shirt à l’effigie de Modeselektor.
