Nous en avions parlé rapidement, Jonny a été déclaré compositeur de l’année par la BBC radio 3 et la "British Academy of Composers and Songwriters in association" pour "Popcorn Superhet Receiver" , jouée pour la première fois à Londres en mars 2005. Pour ceux qui n’avaient pas tout suivi, Jonny Greenwood suit lui aussi en parallèle du groupe un parcours solo, plus orienté musique classique, puisqu’il a collaboré régulièrement avec l’orchestre de la BBC.
L’award a été attribué selon les votes du public. D’après notre reporter à Londres, qui l’a rencontré à un concert vendredi, Jonny est content de la récompense, mais s’interroge de l’influence des fans de Radiohead sur le résultat, il faut dire que la concurrence était de qualité également, mais avaient un panel de fans surement moins important..

Un petit commentaire de Jonny sur son oeuvre dans le programme du concert de vendredi :
"This was my first piece for the BBC orchestra, and it’s coloured by my childhood: as a kid, the family car only ever had the same four casettes in it. These were: the songs of Simon and Garfunkel (tough bizarrely not sung by them); Mozart’s horn concertos; and two musicals: Flower Drum Song and My Fair Lady.(Ths isn’t a claim of any kind of deprivation-there were other records at home – that’s just how things were.) On long journeys, when the family refused to hear them yet again, I used to listen to the engne noise, and found that if i concentrated hard enough i could nearly hear every detail fighting to be heard through the drone of the car. And it was thoughts of background noise, and radios, that got me started writing this first BBC Concert Orchestra Commission."
